This is a semi-abstract painting of one of the cutest...yet largest babies in the world! These bouncing, bundles of joy come in weighing over 200 pounds and stand 3 foot tall! A baby elephant will nurse for two or three years and continue to stay close to its mother until they are about 5.

Baby elephants start to use their trunks at about six or eight months a little to bring the first few bits of food to their mouth and drink, but it is not uncommon to see a young calf (a baby elephant) suck on its trunk.

There are three main types of elephants: the African Bush, African Forest and the Asian elephants. The mighty of all elephants is the African Bush spices. They are usually the ones you see charging with their enormous ears flopping madly in the media, but like all elephants - they are a gentle giant. These elephants are around 11 foot tall and tip the scales at 13,000 pounds!

Asian elephants are the second largest at about 9 feet tall and weighing in at 12,000 pounds. They are also quickly picked out of the bunch by their smaller ears.

The smallest of the three is the African Forest elephants which stand around 8 feet tall and coming in weighing a mere 6,000 pounds!

There is one other type of elephant that is the smallest of all - standing 5 to 8 foot and weight maxes out at 6,000 pounds. These adorable and small subspecies of elephants are endangered and commonly known as the Borneo Pygmy elephant.

'Grandma's Horse' Artist: PJ Martin

Grandma's Horse

Even after the invention of the automobile, in the early 1900’s, there were more horse and cow (oxen) powered vehicles (wagons) than cars and trucks.  Many people rode horses and cows to go to work, store or school.  But, just like today, what you rode in on was sometimes a source of pride and joy.  This was the case with this horse for sure!

My grandfather was a hardworking, rather reserved farmer, with a 15 year, younger wife – who he was very proud of.  Every week, many of the wives would take a load of goods they had harvested, baked, sewed, ect to the market to sell.  Some came in on big cows or older horses…but my grandfather sent his wife to town on a young, beautiful, brown horse that was as gentle and fair as she was.

His message was a strong one to other men who probably noticed the young woman coming to sell her goods, which was he could take care of his young bride better than any of them!

This painting is in honor of that story that Grandma passed down over the years!
